Swing Dancing Every Friday Night
Only $12 on DJ Nights and $18-$20 on Live Band Nights for Lesson and Dancing
Friday is the night for swing dancing in Sacramento! Held in our beautiful dance studio the Spotlight Ballroom. Each week people of all ages and walks of life dance the night away to the best Swing, Jazz, and Blues music in Sacramento. You’ll even catch live music once or twice a month ($18-$20 cover charge depending on the band) featuring bands from around the world.
Some of the musicians in the bands we bring in have played with such legends as Keely Smith, Etta James, Chick Corea, John Lee Hooker Jr., Charles Brown, and many more. Our DJ nights ($12 cover charge) feature a wide variety of music that includes something for everyone. Song requests are always welcome, just talk to our DJ!
You never need a partner because our dances are extremely social and you’re sure to make great friends at Midtown Stomp. The dance runs from 9:00 pm to 12:00 am and there is an introductory lesson at 8:00 pm which is included with your cover charge. We also offer Group Swing Dance Classes for those who want to take their dancing to another level. Come out and join us every Friday night!

March 8th – The West End Stompers – $18
The West End Stompers are one of Sacramento’s true musical treasures featuring amazing musicians that will keep your feet in constant motion. Led by Justin and Brandon Au they feature some of the area’s best musicians who are able to recreate the sounds that we love to dance to!
March 15th – Nick Rossi Swing Six – $18
San Francisco’s premiere 1930s-1940s style swing dance band, brings their Kansas City jazz influenced big beat back to Sacramento and Midtown Stomp. Led by guitarist Rossi, the group is one of the most popular dance bands in Northern California and features the hot frontline of Kamrin Ortiz (tenor sax & clarinet) and Clint Baker (trumpet). The rhythm section is rounded out by Riley Baker (bass), Derek McDonald (drums), and special guest Dean Mora (piano). Two long sets starting at 9 PM. Do not miss out on this amazing night of live swing jazz!
March 22nd – DJ’d Dancing – $12
Are you ready to dance the night away? Us too! Get hyped because Scott Kaufman, our resident DJ, is taking the stage this Friday night and he’s going to bring the heat. Scott’s been our resident DJ for more than 18 years and knows just how to keep the party going all night long. Plus, he loves taking requests so be sure to hit him up with your favorite swing dancing tunes.
March 29th – The Silver Bell Jazz Band – $18
For the first time in years, the Silver Bell Jazz Band is back on our stage. The Silver Bell Jazz Band represents authentic jazz with a beautiful blend of jazz roots that moves the soul and makes you dance! With clarinetist and international Lindy Hop instructor Ryan Calloway leading the band, they play with a special focus towards dancers. Ryan arranges and brings together musicians from all over the Bay Area, and with a rotating cast of all-star jazz musicians, you’re sure to get a fresh, breathtaking experience each and every time, just like in the early jazz sessions.
April 5th – Parker and Weis Guys – $18
We’ve danced to the sounds of Parker Weis’ honkin’ sax and sweet clarinet many times with bands like Crescent Katz and the West End Stompers. You’ve probably also seen him on stage talking about swingin’ tunes with our DJs. His band is so much fun we’re excited to have him back. So Parker and the Weis Guy are hitting the stage again on August 18th!
April 12th – DJ’d Dancing – $12
We have an awesome venue, we have awesome DJs, and now all we need is your awesome self to make the night complete!
April 19th – Dean Mora and his Capital Rhythmists – $18
Dean Mora’s an old-school dance music guy whose bands have played places like Camp Hollywood. Don’t miss this night!
April 21st – Hug It Out – $10
Grab your fast-dancing shoes and get ready to burn up the floor. Our monthly Balboa and Shag focused dance is now on the third Sunday of the month! Elaine Buchignani & Stefan Huynh will be in town from Seattle to teach our Intermediate Balboa class at 1 pm ($5 extra) and then it’s time to dance. If you’ve never danced Balboa or Shag before we have a drop-in lesson at 1:00 pm just for you.
April 26th – DJ’d Dancing – $12
We love live music but sometimes a good old DJ night can make for an incredible night. Our DJs will spin your favorite Swing, Jazz, and Jump Blues for your dancing pleasure. Your requests are always welcome so just ask your friendly DJ for the songs that you love to swing dance to.
May 3rd – SwingMasters 17-piece Big Band – $18
In the swing dancing era, most of the bands playing for swing dancers were big bands. Nowadays, it is difficult to find a big band that plays music specifically for swing dancing. Fortunately, Sacramento has the SwingMasters, a 17-piece band that is ready to swing you around in any direction you want. If you have never danced to a full big band, this is the night to try it!
May 10th – Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bums – $18
We’re getting down to the amazing sounds of the Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bums featuring Miss Carmen Getit!
